from 12.00

Friday, November 23

1 PM - 3 PM

$30/adult, $12/child

Details

Spend the afternoon on this day after Thanksgiving creating something beautiful! In this family-friendly workshop you’ll learn to dye with natural indigo and create beautiful items to keep for yourself or to get a head start on holiday gifting.

Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dying using various twisting, wrapping, and tying techniques to achieve beautiful blue and white patterns on fabric. Participants will each be provided two 28 inch tea towels and a small drawstring bag to dye.

You are welcome to bring additional light colored items to dye. Natural fibers (cotton, silk, wool) work best but cotton blends with a small amount of polyester or nylon usually dye well. This is completely optional and Items do not have to be new! Dyeing used goods with indigo is a great way to give new life to items that are dingy or stained. Don’t be shy - there will be plenty of dye!

This workshop includes:

  • all instruction and supplies

  • coffee, tea, cocoa and light snacks

  • a fun, relaxed atmosphere to be creative and inspire each other

A note about children attending

Indigo dyeing is a very child-friendly process as even the simplest twists and knots create beautiful designs! It is not often that parents/guardians and children have the opportunity to learn and create alongside each other and we are excited to provide this experience.

Children must attend with an adult - this is not a drop-off program. Suggested age for children is school age and up but you know your child best. You will get the most out of this workshop if your child is able to tie knots, wrap rubber bands and otherwise manipulate the fabric to some degree themselves. We have some books and puzzles available if children need a break from dyeing fabric but they are expected to be respectful of others who are still working.
